What to Wear and Bring

Being prepared for a range of weather conditions is key.

Rucksacks: You will need one with enough support to carry your load.  Flimsy, lightweight ones will put pressure on your shoulders and affect your joy as you walk.

Clothing: A waterproof outer layer is essential at all times of the year – Dorset weather is very changeable. Layers are the key to comfort. You can take on and off layers as the temperature changes.  Bring one more than you think you will need. You don’t need ‘performance’ hiking tops;  wool is nature’s insulation. A hat is essential – for warmth or to protect you from the sun – good sunglasses will help too. A cotton scarf to protect your neck from the sun.  Pop a pair of gloves into the ruck sack, just in case. A pair of waterproof trousers are essential when the weather turns – useful to sit on too.

Walking Boots: Boots with ankle support and a good tread are essential.  Make sure you’ve worn them a few times before heading out on a long walk.

Walking Poles: If you have them, bring them.

Food and Drink: A water bottle and snacks are essential.  A flask of tea or coffee too.  If there is nowhere to stop for lunch, bring a good pack lunch.

Medication: Bring essential medication.  If you know you have allergies to grass pollens etc. Come prepared.

Sun Cream: Essential whatever the weather.

Sitting Mat: If you have one great, if not a bin bag does the trick.
